Major MacBook Pro Redesign With OLED and M6 Chip Coming in Late 2026 or 2027, Says Gurman

A significant MacBook Pro redesign is still more than a year away, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who reports that late 2026 or early 2027 is the likely launch window. The upgrade is expected to be a major one, introducing an OLED display and Apple’s next-generation M6 chip, a combination Gurman believes could finally spur upgrades among Mac users who’ve been holding off.

Why the Wait?

Gurman says the impressive longevity of Apple Silicon has created a “good problem” for Apple: Macs are now so fast and efficient that people aren’t upgrading as often. Many users, including Gurman himself, are still on M1 models, skipping the M2, M3, and even M4 because the performance boosts haven’t been dramatic enough to justify the cost—marking a stark contrast with the Intel era, when machines often felt outdated within a couple of years.

What’s Coming Before the Big Redesign

Before the OLED-equipped M6 model lands, Apple is planning an incremental update:

  • M5 MacBook Pro

  • Early 2026 release window

  • Same design introduced in 2021

  • Expected to be a spec bump, not a visual overhaul

This matches earlier leaks and product roadmaps that also pointed to the M5 update bridging the gap before the major design shift.
