Leaked iPhone 18 Display Specs Hint at Under-Display Design and iPhone Air 2

Apple appears to be moving deeper into development of its next flagship phones. According to a new supply chain leak, Apple has begun sampling components for the iPhone 18 lineup, with early display specifications revealing plans for a cleaner, more immersive design—especially on the Pro models.

The information comes from leaker Digital Chat Station, who shared new details on Weibo outlining four distinct iPhone 18 models, including a second-generation iPhone Air.

Standard iPhone 18 and iPhone Air 2 Display Details

According to the leak, Apple plans to maintain familiar display sizes for its mainstream models:

  • iPhone 18: 6.27-inch display
  • iPhone Air 2: 6.55-inch display

Both devices are expected to retain the Dynamic Island and continue using 120Hz LTPO OLED panels, carrying forward the high refresh rate experience introduced across the iPhone 17 lineup.

The inclusion of the iPhone Air 2 is particularly notable, given earlier reports suggesting the ultra-thin model might be delayed or canceled. More recent supply chain chatter, however, continues to point toward a fall launch, indicating Apple may still be committed to evolving the slimmer form factor.

Big Changes Coming to iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max

The most interesting shift appears to be reserved for the Pro lineup.

  • iPhone 18 Pro: 6.27-inch display
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max: 6.86-inch display

Both Pro models are said to feature a “new open area under the screen,” supporting earlier reports that Apple is testing under-display Face ID technology.

If this holds true, the Dynamic Island could shrink dramatically—potentially down to a single punch-hole cutout. Some leaks even suggest the camera lens may move to the top-left corner, a major visual change from Apple’s current centered layout.

Under-Display Face ID Gets Closer to Reality

Apple has reportedly been experimenting with under-display Face ID for several years, but display quality and sensor reliability have been major hurdles. A partial implementation—where Face ID components sit beneath the screen while the front camera remains visible—could be a practical first step.

Such a move would bring Apple closer to a true all-screen iPhone design, while still maintaining Face ID security.

iPhone Air 2 Still in Play—For Now

The appearance of the iPhone Air 2 in this leak adds to the mixed signals surrounding the model’s future. Analysts previously warned that weak demand for the first-generation iPhone Air could lead Apple to delay or scrap the follow-up.

However, its inclusion in early sampling suggests Apple is at least keeping the Air line alive internally, even if final production decisions haven’t been locked in yet.

Early Signs of a Major Design Shift

Component sampling typically happens well before mass production, but it’s an important milestone. If these specs hold, the iPhone 18 lineup could represent one of Apple’s most noticeable design evolutions in years—especially at the Pro level.

With a launch still expected in fall 2026, there’s plenty of time for plans to change. Still, the move toward under-display technology and a slimmer Dynamic Island suggests Apple is laying the groundwork for a much cleaner iPhone aesthetic.
