iPhone 17e Could Bring Dynamic Island and MagSafe to Apple’s $599 Model

Apple may be about to modernize its entry-level iPhone. According to Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech, the company is expected to announce the iPhone 17e next week via a press release—continuing the “e” lineup strategy that has quietly become a meaningful part of Apple’s sales mix.
If the latest rumors hold, this could be the biggest design update yet for Apple’s budget-tier iPhone.
Dynamic Island Could Finally Replace the Notch
The headline rumor is the potential arrival of Dynamic Island on the $599 iPhone 17e.
If Apple includes it, this would:
- Eliminate the notch from Apple’s main iPhone lineup
- Bring the budget model visually closer to Pro devices
- Make the device feel immediately more modern
However, Prosser notes he is not fully certain the feature will ship. Apple could still reuse older notched tooling from the iPhone 14-era chassis to keep costs down.
The display itself is expected to remain:
- 6.1-inch panel
- 60Hz refresh rate
- No ProMotion
A19 Chip and Apple Intelligence Support
Inside, the iPhone 17e is rumored to run a binned version of the A19 chip paired with 8GB of RAM.
That memory bump is important because it enables:
- Apple Intelligence features
- Better multitasking
- Improved long-term performance
Despite some speculation, the base storage is unlikely to jump to 256GB at this price point.
Battery, Connectivity, and MagSafe
Other expected upgrades include:
- Battery around 4,000mAh
- Apple’s new C1X connectivity chip
- MagSafe support returning to the lineup
MagSafe is a notable addition since it was missing on the iPhone 16e. Its return would expand compatibility with Apple’s accessory ecosystem and improve wireless charging flexibility.
Camera Strategy: Keep It Simple
To maintain separation from the Pro models, Apple is expected to stick with:
- Single 48MP rear camera
- Upgraded image processing via the A19
- 18MP front camera with Center Stage
While the rear hardware may be unchanged, the newer chip should deliver better low-light performance and computational photography.
Colors and Positioning
The iPhone 17e is expected to launch in:
- Black
- White
- Possibly a third color (Lavender rumored but unconfirmed)
Apple is reportedly targeting the same $599 starting price, reinforcing the device’s role as the company’s most accessible modern iPhone.
Why This Launch Matters
If Apple brings Dynamic Island and MagSafe to the entry tier, the iPhone 17e could significantly narrow the perceived gap between budget and flagship models.
For Apple, the strategy is clear:
- Keep the price aggressive
- Modernize the design
- Enable Apple Intelligence
- Drive upgrades in price-sensitive markets
With an announcement potentially just days away, we won’t have to wait long to see whether Apple delivers the full feature set—or plays it more conservatively to protect margins.
