iPhone 17 Pro Rumor: Apple Finally Testing Reverse Wireless Charging

Apple might finally be ready to join the club of phones that can charge other devices wirelessly. A new rumor from leaker Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo claims the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro could support reverse wireless charging—a feature Android flagships have had for years.

If it makes the cut, this would mean you could place your AirPods, Apple Watch, or even another iPhone on the back of your iPhone 17 Pro and give them a little juice. Pretty handy when you’re on the go and don’t want to carry extra cables or a power bank.

Why This Matters

  • First time on iPhone: Despite years of speculation, Apple has never shipped an iPhone with reverse wireless charging.

  • More convenient than cables: You’d be able to top up your Apple Watch or AirPods case by simply placing them on the back of your phone.

  • Complements existing wired reverse charging: Apple introduced reverse wired charging with the iPhone 15, letting users charge smaller devices via the USB-C port at up to 4.5W. Wireless would take it to the next level.

What Else is Coming to iPhone 17 Pro?

Reverse wireless charging isn’t the only upgrade being talked about:

  • New design: A wide, horizontal camera bar is rumored for the back of the Pro models.

  • Anti-reflective display: A tougher, glare-resistant screen coating could make its debut.

  • A19 Pro chip: Apple’s next-gen silicon, paired with a vapor chamber cooling system, designed to keep temps under control.

  • Aluminum frame: Apple is reportedly moving away from titanium for better heat dissipation and antenna performance.

A Word of Caution

Like all pre-release rumors, take this with a pinch of salt. Reverse wireless charging has been rumored for multiple iPhone generations without ever showing up. That said, the fact Apple already supports wired reverse charging gives this leak a little more weight.

When Will We Know?

The iPhone 17 lineup is expected in fall 2025, and leaks suggest it’ll be one of Apple’s biggest iPhone refreshes in years—with a new “Air” model, new camera designs, and possibly this long-awaited charging upgrade.
