Apple Unveils iPhone 17e With A19 Chip and 256GB Starting Storage for $599

Apple has officially introduced the iPhone 17e, expanding the iPhone 17 lineup with a more affordable option that still delivers meaningful performance upgrades. Starting at $599, the iPhone 17e doubles the base storage to 256GB and ships with the new A19 chip, along with iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence features built in.

With this release, Apple is clearly positioning the 17e as a high-value entry point that does not feel stripped down.

Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, described the device as combining powerful performance with features users love at an exceptional value. The emphasis is on longevity, speed, security, and durability rather than simply lowering the price.

Design and Display

The iPhone 17e features a lightweight aerospace-grade aluminum design with a premium matte finish. It is available in black, white, and a new soft pink color that adds a subtle refresh to the lineup.

On the front, the device sports a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display capable of reaching up to 1200 nits of peak HDR brightness. Ceramic Shield 2 protects the display and delivers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation, along with reduced glare thanks to an Apple-designed coating.

Face ID remains the primary authentication method for unlocking, payments, and app sign-ins. The Action button is also included, allowing users to quickly launch features such as the flashlight, Visual Intelligence, or custom shortcuts.

Performance: A19 and C1X Modem

At the core of the iPhone 17e is Apple’s new A19 chip, built on a 3-nanometer process. It includes a 6-core CPU, a 4-core GPU with hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and a 16-core Neural Engine optimized for large generative models.

This hardware foundation enables Apple Intelligence features directly on device, supporting advanced AI tasks while maintaining strong efficiency.

The iPhone 17e also introduces Apple’s C1X cellular modem. Apple says C1X is up to twice as fast as the C1 found in the iPhone 16e, matches the speed of iPhone Air, and uses 30 percent less energy than the modem in the iPhone 16 Pro. That efficiency contributes to all-day battery life, even with heavier data usage.

Charging options include fast wired charging over USB-C, reaching up to 50 percent in around 30 minutes, along with MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15 watts.

Camera System: 48MP Fusion With 2x Optical-Quality Zoom

The iPhone 17e features a 48MP Fusion camera system that delivers what Apple calls “two cameras in one.” Users can capture full 48MP images for maximum detail or shoot in the default 24MP mode to balance quality and file size.

An optical-quality 2x Telephoto option is enabled through the sensor, giving users added versatility without requiring a dedicated third lens.

Portrait mode receives improvements through a more advanced image pipeline. The camera now recognizes people, dogs, and cats automatically and saves depth information so users can adjust background blur after the photo is taken or change focus directly in the Photos app.

Low-light photography benefits from Night mode and enhanced HDR processing.

For video, the iPhone 17e records 4K Dolby Vision at up to 60 frames per second. It captures Spatial Audio for immersive playback on AirPods and Apple Vision Pro and includes Audio Mix and wind noise reduction features for clearer sound in real-world environments.

iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence

The iPhone 17e ships with iOS 26 and Apple’s new Liquid Glass design language, bringing visual refinements across the interface.

Apple Intelligence features available on the device include Live Translation, Visual Intelligence, Call Screening, and Hold Assist. These tools aim to make communication smoother and more efficient while maintaining Apple’s emphasis on on-device privacy.

Safety features include Crash Detection, along with satellite capabilities such as Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Messages, and Find My via satellite when outside cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone 17e will be available in 256GB and 512GB configurations, starting at $599. Customers in more than 70 countries and regions can pre-order beginning Wednesday, March 4 at 6:15 a.m. PST, with general availability starting Wednesday, March 11.

By doubling the base storage and introducing the A19 chip at this price point, Apple is strengthening its value proposition in the mid-range smartphone market.

For buyers looking for modern performance, Apple Intelligence support, and long-term durability without stepping into Pro pricing, the iPhone 17e appears designed to deliver exactly that balance.
