Apple Unveils $599 MacBook Neo With A18 Pro Chip and Aluminum Design

Apple has officially expanded its Mac lineup with the introduction of the MacBook Neo, a new entry-level laptop designed to bring the Mac experience to a much lower price point. Starting at $599, the MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, an aluminum enclosure, and is powered by Apple’s A18 Pro chip. The laptop will be available to customers beginning Wednesday, March 11.

The launch comes after an accidental regulatory leak earlier in the week hinted at the device’s existence. With MacBook Neo, Apple is clearly targeting students, first-time Mac buyers, and customers looking for a more affordable Apple laptop without sacrificing build quality.

A New Approach to MacBook Design

Despite its lower price, Apple did not revert to plastic materials for the MacBook Neo. Instead, the company developed a new material-efficient forming process that uses roughly half the aluminum required in traditional machining while maintaining a sturdy unibody design.

The laptop weighs just 2.7 pounds and continues Apple’s focus on durability and premium materials even in its most affordable device.

The MacBook Neo is available in four colors: blush, indigo, silver, and a new citrus finish. These colors extend across the Magic Keyboard as well, which features lighter color-matched keys and includes Touch ID for secure logins and Apple Pay authentication. Apple also created custom wallpapers designed specifically to match the new hardware finishes.

13-Inch Liquid Retina Display

The MacBook Neo features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2408 by 1506. The panel supports one billion colors and reaches a peak brightness of 500 nits, offering a vibrant viewing experience suitable for both work and entertainment.

An anti-reflective coating helps reduce glare, making the display easier to use in bright environments such as classrooms or offices.

Above the display is a 1080p FaceTime HD camera that uses updated image processing to improve video quality during calls. Audio is delivered through dual side-firing speakers that support Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. The laptop also includes dual microphones with directional beamforming designed to reduce background noise during meetings or recordings.

Powered by the A18 Pro Chip

One of the most notable decisions Apple made with the MacBook Neo is its processor. Instead of using an M-series chip, the laptop runs on the A18 Pro processor, the same class of silicon found in high-end iPhones.

The chip includes a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine designed for AI workloads.

Apple says the fanless design allows the MacBook Neo to deliver up to 50 percent faster performance for everyday tasks compared to best-selling PC laptops powered by Intel Core Ultra 5 processors. For AI-related tasks, the system can deliver up to three times faster performance.

Apple highlighted common use cases such as working in Canva, managing spreadsheets in Excel, summarizing text in Bear, and using AI-powered tools like the Clean Up feature in Photos.

Battery life is rated for up to 16 hours on a single charge, making it suitable for a full day of classes or work.

Simplified Connectivity

To keep the device streamlined and affordable, Apple simplified the connectivity options.

The left side of the MacBook Neo includes a USB 3 Type-C port that can also drive an external display. On the right side, there is a USB 2 Type-C port. Both ports support charging the device.

The laptop also includes a large Multi-Touch trackpad and a traditional headphone jack. Wireless connectivity is supported by Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6.

macOS Tahoe and Apple Intelligence

The MacBook Neo ships with macOS Tahoe, ensuring full compatibility with Apple Intelligence features such as Writing Tools and Live Translation.

The device also supports Apple’s broader ecosystem features, including Continuity tools like iPhone Mirroring, Universal Clipboard, and Handoff. These integrations allow the MacBook Neo to work seamlessly alongside other Apple devices.

Availability

The MacBook Neo starts at $599 and will be available beginning Wednesday, March 11. With its aluminum design, A18 Pro chip, and support for Apple Intelligence features, Apple is positioning the laptop as a capable entry point into the Mac ecosystem.

By bringing the Mac experience to a lower price tier while maintaining premium materials, the MacBook Neo could become one of Apple’s most widely adopted laptops, particularly among students and first-time Mac buyers.
