Apple Removes Power Adapter from 14-Inch M5 MacBook Pro Box in U.K. and Europe

Apple’s latest 14-inch MacBook Pro with the M5 chip has quietly debuted with a notable change for customers in the U.K. and across Europe — the laptop no longer ships with a power adapter in the box.
No Power Adapter in the Box for Europe
According to listings on Apple’s online store, buyers in the U.K., Germany, France, Spain, and other European markets will not receive the 70W USB-C Power Adapter with their new MacBook Pro. Instead, they’ll need to purchase it separately for £59 in the U.K. or 65,00 € in most EU countries.
Apple, however, continues to include the USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable in the box for all customers.
In contrast, MacBook Pro buyers in the United States and other non-European markets will still receive the 70W USB-C Power Adapter as part of the standard package.
A Step Toward Sustainability
Apple’s decision appears to be part of its ongoing environmental and waste-reduction strategy. The company has steadily removed power adapters from product boxes over the past few years, beginning with the iPhone 12 in 2020 — a move that initially sparked debate but has since become an industry trend.
Apple says that omitting power bricks helps cut down on electronic waste, reduce packaging size, and lower carbon emissions associated with shipping. Many customers already own compatible USB-C power adapters, especially given the company’s steady transition to USB-C across all its products.
A Broader Shift in Apple’s Accessory Packaging
This isn’t an isolated change. The recently launched AirPods Pro 3 also ship without a power adapter or even a USB-C cable, further reinforcing Apple’s “use what you already have” approach.
While some users may find the change inconvenient, others see it as a logical step toward sustainability and a reflection of the company’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire product lineup by 2030.
Apple’s Environmental Goals Continue to Shape Product Design
Apple has made clear that it views product packaging as part of its larger environmental footprint. By reducing materials, shrinking box sizes, and relying on recycled components, the company claims to have significantly lowered its carbon impact per device.
Removing included chargers — particularly in regions with stricter sustainability regulations — allows Apple to meet local environmental standards while promoting its reuse-and-recycle philosophy.
What Buyers Should Know
Customers in the U.K. and Europe purchasing the new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 will receive:
-
The MacBook Pro (14-inch, M5)

A USB-C to MagSafe 3 cable
-
Documentation
Those who don’t already own a compatible power adapter will need to purchase one separately — either Apple’s 70W USB-C Power Adapter or any third-party charger that meets USB-PD specifications.
A Familiar Strategy, Extended to the Mac
While the move mirrors Apple’s earlier approach with iPhones and accessories, its arrival in the MacBook lineup represents a new milestone in the company’s sustainability journey.
For Apple, it’s another step toward its environmental commitments. For customers, it’s a reminder that the era of fully equipped boxes may be coming to an end — at least in Europe.
