AirPods Pro 3 Rumor: A Sleeker Case With Touch Controls
Share
Apple’s next-generation AirPods Pro 3 may be in for a case redesign—one that simplifies the look, reduces moving parts, and adds some futuristic new controls.
According to leakers @asherdipps and @majinbuofficial, Apple is planning to ditch the physical pairing button on the charging case. In its place? Touch controls right on the front.
What’s Changing
-
No more pairing button → pairing will be handled with a simple tap on the new touch panel.
-
Playback gestures → the touch area could also let you play, pause, or skip tracks without reaching for your earbuds.
-
Design tweaks → one report claims the case will be slightly smaller, while another says it will be nearly identical to the current size (meaning accessories like cases should still fit).
-
Lanyard support → sticking around for easy carrying.
When Will They Launch?
That’s where things get messy:
-
Mark Gurman (Bloomberg) says Apple could debut them as soon as this fall.
-
Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo, two well-known analysts, say mass production isn’t expected until 2026.
So, while a redesign is clearly in the works, we may still be a year or more away from seeing it on shelves.
What About Features?
Even if AirPods Pro 3 are a ways off, Apple isn’t leaving current users behind. This fall, AirPods Pro 2 will be getting:
-
Studio-quality audio recording
-
Remote camera shutter control
-
Improved voice isolation for clearer calls
-
Automatic pause when you fall asleep

The Bigger Picture
Apple has been steadily blurring the line between the case and the earbuds themselves. With the rumored touch-enabled Pro 3 case, your charging case may soon feel more like a mini remote control than just a battery box.
