Apple Grows iPhone Sales in Q2 Despite Drop in China
Share
Apple continues to hold strong in the global smartphone race, shipping 46.4 million iPhones in Q2 2025 and locking in 15.7% market share, according to preliminary data from IDC (International Data Corporation). That puts Apple firmly in second place worldwide, trailing only Samsung.
Growth at a Glance:
-
Apple’s iPhone shipments were up 1.5% year-over-year
-
The global smartphone market grew just 1.0% in the same period, reaching 295.2 million units
-
Apple saw double-digit growth in emerging markets, helping offset a 1% dip in China
That small drop in China is actually a big improvement—especially considering Apple saw a 9% decline in the region just a quarter earlier. IDC notes that Apple led China’s 618 shopping festival, even as most brands focused on clearing inventory instead of boosting shipments.

Samsung’s gains came largely from the popularity of its mid-range Galaxy A36 and A56, showing that value-conscious consumers are still driving much of the volume.
Market Context:
While the overall numbers look modest, they’re still a win. According to IDC’s Anthony Scarsella, the growth—even at 1%—is encouraging given global political tensions, economic pressures, and trade barriers. He noted:
“Q2 was packed with new models, innovative designs, and AI integration—driving our 8th straight quarter of growth, something we haven’t seen since 2013.”
The Takeaway:
Apple’s resilience—especially in China and emerging markets—shows its ability to weather economic headwinds. And with new iPhones, iOS 26, and deeper AI features expected this fall, Q3 and Q4 could build even more momentum.
